Soft Candy Cane Sugar Cookies 😛 (Personal Photo.)

Hey guys! I don’t know about you, but I am so excited for Christmas! When I think of holiday goodies, I automatically think of sugar cookies and candy canes. I adore candy canes, probably because they are the only decorations that you can eat off of the Christmas tree! So, why not combine cookies and candy canes? These candy cane sugar cookies include a deliciously sweet red icing and a melt in your mouth white chocolate peppermint Hershey’s Kiss™ topping. I can’t wait to share these soft Christmas cookies with my friends and family!

Bake time: 10-11 minutes Makes: 24 holiday cookies

What You’ll Need

3/4 of a cup of softened butter (Softened at room temperature.)

3/4 of a cup of granulated white sugar

2 large eggs

2 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract (Pure or Imitation.)

1/2 of a teaspoon of pure peppermint extract

1/2 of a teaspoon of salt

2 1/4 teaspoons of baking powder

2 1/4 cups of all purpose flour

1 package of white chocolate peppermint Hershey’s Kisses™

Store bought white icing

Optional: red food coloring (I use this to really give the icing a bright and festive color that makes the cookies look like candy canes!)

Directions

  1. Place butter and sugar into a large glass bowl. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in separate bowl. add eggs, vanilla extract, and peppermint extract in a bowl. (Preparing all of your ingredients before will save you so much time and save you from cleaning a huge mess at the end!)

  2. In a large glass bowl using an electric or stand bowl mixer, cream together butter and sugar until well combined. (It’s okay if it’s a little chunky!)

Fun fact, I actually held the camera with my chin because my hands were full. (Personal Photo.)
  4. Gradually add your dry mixture. (Adding it gradually keeps it from flying everywhere and is easier to combine!)

  5. Eat some!
  6. Cover up and let chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
  7. After letting your delicious batter chill for an hour, preheat the oven to 350°F and line the baking tray with parchment paper.
  8. Using your trusty 1-inch ice cream scoop, scoop the cookies onto a lined baking sheet and press down lightly on the top.

  10. Place cookies on cooling rack.
  11. After a minute, decorate with icing then put on the candy. (If using icing, add in a few drops of red food coloring for a festive look!)

  1. Hey Chelsea! These cookies look delicious! Did you make this recipe yourself? Do you make these cookies every Christmas or is it your first time trying these? Since you like candy canes, have you tried peppermint bark, do you like it?I liked your instructions and “what you’ll need”, I thought that they were easy to understand and didn’t confuse me at all. I liked the helpful tips you included and enjoyed looking at your photos! Great job!

    • Hey Alaa! Thanks so much for your feedback and I’m so happy you think that this recipe is easy to follow! I have tried peppermint bark and was almost thinking about using it, but then realized I’d have to chop it all up, but peppermint bark is super good :P. I hope to hear from you again soon!

  2. Hey Chelsea!! This post is so fun and festive! I totally agree with you, I am sooo excited for Christmas, and baking yummy deserts is a great way to get in the spirit! Peppermint or just mint in general is definitely one of my favorite flavors, would you say the same for yourself? Does your whole family like to get involved when you bake during the holidays? I for sure will try to make these, they seem super easy and delicious!

    • Hey Claire! Thanks so much! I really enjoy the flavor of peppermint, especially during the holidays. When it comes to holiday baking, it usually is just me while the rest are cooking a meal or just doing other things, on occasion my twin sister comes and helps (really she just licks the spoons :P). Thanks again for your comment, Claire!

    • Hey Rachel! Thanks for your feedback! This is actually the first time I’ve ever tried this recipe, my family usually sticks to plain old gingerbread cookies and I really wanted to try something new this year. These cookies were for sure a fave, I think they’re going to be our new tradition!

  4. Chelsea, your cookies look so good! I always want to make a kind of peppermint cookie but I can never decide which to make. Now, I am going to use your recipe for the holidays next year since I am reading this after they have already ended. I liked the fact that you used your own photos and the fact that you included a step of liking the batter of the spoon. That, personally, is the best part of making cookies. Do you always make this recipe as a tradition or is it something new?

    • Hey Elizabeth! Thank you so much for your feedback, I always appreciate it! I have always thought that licking the batter off the spoon should be a permanent step because we all do it, I mean, how can you not??? This was the first time that I have ever made these cookies, my family really seemed to enjoy them so I think they are going to now become a traditional holiday treat!
